Ear-Splitting Animal Friends

Q.
Human loud is plenty loud.  The Guinness World Book of Records names Jill Drake – a classroom assistant – as possessor of the loudest scream at 129 decibels. But, which animals are the loudest overall?

Sperm whales – loudness royalty – can emit at up to 230 decibels. That’s louder than jet engines at 150 decibels. That’s loud enough to trade underwater messages with sperm whale buddies thousands of miles away.
