For the 11th year, InterNations has published the results from their expat city satisfaction survey. This 2024 survey was based on responses from more than 12500 expats representing 175 nationalities and living in 174 countries or territories.

Which city topped the Best City for Expats list? Valencia, Spain.

Some of the most appealing aspects of Valencia these expats list: personal safety, opportunities for recreational sport, public transportation, general cost of living, personal finances.

We asked a bestie who is lucky enough to live in Valencia what they like most about it. Her answer?

“It’s a small enough city to easily navigate walking, cycling on the myriad of bicycle paths, or using the excellent public transport system. And it’s big enough that you can find whatever you need and want from cuisine to leisure activities to cultural events.

It’s also an incredibly lively and friendly place where people truly come together to help each-other regardless of background or social strata, as recently evidenced by the thousands of volunteers who walked miles with brooms and mops from the city center to the suburbs and villages on the outskirts that we’re devastated by flooding.

And not for nothing, Valencia has one of the highest number of sunny days in Europe, and is easy on the eyes with beautiful beaches, parks, buildings and squares.”

Her husband adds: Valencia is a place with “a strong sense of quiet well-being.”
