Sweet Tooth Canada

Q.
How does the Canadian sweet tooth compare to those of our global counterparts?

.

A.

We can start with the healthy sweets. Can you name the most consumed fruit in the world?

According to the Guinness Book of Records, the most consumed fruit in the world is the banana  – aka Musa sapientum.  Equally popular is its cousin, the plantain  – Musa paradisiaca, which you might have enjoyed  fried in countries like Jamaica, Cuba, Ghana, the Dominican Republic.

.

Meanwhile, according to Agriculture Canada, the most popular fruits in Canada  – ‘which make up the majority of the ones grown commercially in Canada’ – are:
• apples
• tender fruits (peaches, nectarines, pears, plums, prunes, cherries)
• grapes
• blueberries
• cranberries
• raspberries.

.

B.C. – we learn from the B.C. Blueberry Council – is Canada’s largest grower of highbush blueberries, and one of the Top 10 blueberry producers in the world.

.

.

Moving to less virtuous sweets.. in March of 2022, Candy Club brought together their data sources to find ..

Most Popular Candies
i. Australia, India, Ireland, UK –  Cadbury Dairy Milk
ii. Brazil – Chocolate
iii. Canada – Kit Kats + Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
iv. Germany – Milka
v. Japan – Meiji Chocolate
vi. Mexico – Chocolate
vii. South Africa – Cadbury Lunch Bar
